The personal spirituality of the Enneagram and our world religions can work in tandem, to help us live more vitally and authentically in the world.
I have an upcoming 3-part online course that explores the fascinating ways Enneagram types and world religions overlap and point to a shared goal.
Our world religions and spiritualities have emerged out of human encounters with transcendence, and most of them provide outer forms and guidance for how to get back there. Similarly, the Enneagram is a channel that guides us to connect with transcendence, and it does so by mapping out an inner journey.
Where the Enneagram and religions have fascinating common ground is each uniquely frames the problem of what it means to be human, and then points to the corresponding solution that helps us return to our spiritual home.
Hinduism, Confucianism, Islam, Christianity, and even Atheism are some of the spiritual orientations that I will be aligning with Enneagram types. It’s important to stress this isn’t a class about understanding world religions. I will be focusing on a small slice of each of the religious perspectives I select. Most religions could align with a number of the types. Instead, I’ll be imaginatively weaving together key themes from spiritual traditions that have a clear connection with each of the 9 Enneagram types.
In the end, could it be that the religions and Enneagram types are all pointing toward a particular spiritual-human experience? What might that be?
