Why Is the Present Moment So Potent?

Many of us think of the present moment as a gentle pause—a time to breathe, reflect, and perhaps quiet the mind. While this is certainly true, I’ve come to see that the present moment is far more than a peaceful resting place. It’s a powerful threshold, a living portal that opens us to deeper wisdom, richer feeling, and more meaningful action.

When we rest in present moment awareness, we do more than soothe our nervous system. We unlock gateways of perception that invite us to think more wisely, feel with greater depth, and act with intention. In my own journey—and in the journeys I witness as a spiritual guide—this awareness becomes a bridge between the mundane and the sacred. Sometimes, just by pausing and noticing, we find ourselves receiving guidance and insight that feels as if it comes from a place beyond our ordinary mind. And I believe it does!

There is a spiritual dimension to this kind of presence. In those potent moments when we are truly present, a subtle door opens to the spiritual realm. With intention, we can develop this spiritual receptivity. We can increasingly feel accompanied, guided, or resourced in ways that are both mysterious and deeply reassuring. It is in these moments that we often receive the wisdom or courage needed for our next step.

We can’t experience the dynamic Spirit in the past or the future. It only comes to us in the present moment. Why is the present moment so potent? Because it opens a portal where all heaven can break loose! I encourage you to play with this experience today:

  • Tune into your breathing

  • Relax your body, heart, and mind

  • Invite Grace and Guidance into your inner quiet place

  • And then listen . . . . .
